Hi Gang…
One of my best Glasspar friends is Pat Hoover. He is currently finishing the restoration of his father’s Glasspar G2 that was given to him by his dad as a family keepsake. Pat’s father, Bill Hoover, was one of the original guys who bought and built his own Glasspar G2 sports car back in the day. Bill was quite a guy, and I look forward to sharing more stories about him in the future on “Forgotten Fiberglass.”
I’m sorry I never got a chance to know Bill personally, but I have a bit through my friendship with his son Pat, and the Hoover family too. We’ll learn more about his father’s G2 as the restoration nears completion, but today’s story is about the next generation of Hoovers – Pat’s son Joey.
Joey is off and running as a young car enthusiast already. In fact, with his father’s help, young Joey Hoover has already built and raced his own Glasspar G2 – albeit it’s a bit smaller than the cars we’re used to. Let’s allow Pat to tell the story in his own words…
From the Desk of Pat Hoover (3/27/2011):
“Hello Geoff
Yesterday was Joey’s first Pinewood Derby.
He is a Tiger Scout (a Bobcat in our time). Joey insisted that we should make a car for Grand Dad, so.. The G2 raced its first derby placing 1st and 2nd in all of its 12 races. It missed the top four by no more that 2 places to advance to the District race for the “County Title”!
The best part of the day was finally being able to play with it minus the fear of breaking something before the big race. You can see Joey in the video running toward me for a victory HI-5. He also won the “Most Realistic Car Award”.
Going in the back yard to blow-up army men with fire crackers now.
Cheers,
Pat Hoover”
Watching the Glasspar G2 In Action:
Ok….pictures are great but video is better – right gang? Pat sent along a 30 second video of the G2 in action and winning a race. And this G2’s not even Ardun powered! Checkout the video below. Joey’s Glasspar G2 is in the near lane.
Go Joey Go!

Summary:
Ah…the memories of youth. Makes me want to go out and build a small Pinewood Victress S1A or Grantham Stardust. No doubt Joey would beat the pants off me, but I’d give them a run for their money 🙂
Hope you enjoyed the story, and until next time…
Glass on gang…
Geoff
