Today’s article focuses on the McCormack Coupe designed by Henry McCormack which debuted in November 1955 at the Petersen Motorama in Los Angeles, California.
Background: The McCormack Coupe
Henry “Hank” McCormack originally designed his car to be a mid-engined sports car. That would have been the first fiberglass car I’m aware of that would have had this design in mind. But alas, due to cost constraints and other restrictions, Henry moved the engine forward to a more conventional place and the rest is automotive fiberglass history.
The McCormack Coupe had two lives:
- First: As part of Henry McCormack’s own business with bodies being built by himself in Orange, California. Click here to review one of Hank’s original brochures.
- Second: As part of a company in the early ‘60s called Track Kraft. Click here to review the Track Kraft brochure showing the McCormack newly named as the “TK-103” sports car.
Later in ’61, the molds were sold via a classified ad in Hot Rod Magazine and the production of the McCormack ceased to exist.
So…enjoy this segment of Car Craft’s 1956 Fiberglass Buyers Guide and be on the lookout for the next McCormack Coupe hiding out there. Just a few have been found, and your efforts could make you the next lucky owner. And you’d make the McCormack family very proud.
Go get ‘em gang!
