122 Joe Curl’s Review of Registration Book 527 DMF 8-18-2025 Via E-mail What is striking about your Log Book (527 DMF) is that it doesn't start until 1959 which is strong circumstantial support for the theory that Tom's car was Allard's own publicity/test vehicle and was only disposed of when Allard stopped making cars at the end of the 50s. 8-19-2025 Via E-mail A further thought on your Log Book: I note with particular interest that the stamps recording when it was taxed show that it was taxed until 1967. As you probably know, tax in the UK for driving a car on the road is separate from registration: you have to pay a flat rate of £x per year to drive on the road. Until about 20 years ago, you got issued with a "tax disc" which was literally a disc of paper, with the expiration month and year in big type that you displayed on your windscreen, so anyone could see at a glance whether you were taxed. It is interesting to see that Tom's Clipper was taxed all the way until 1967, which suggests someone was actually using it on the road until that time (otherwise they wouldn't need to pay the tax), and I reckon this was actually quite a long period of time on the road all things considered. It also suggests that it must have had a very hard time somewhere between 1967 and 1975 to go from on the road to being considered (according to the 1984 article from RUM Car News) beyond restoration.
