The 1954 Allard Clipper

156 In the photo below you can see a teardrop air vent for the motor. This teardrop vent is also on the car (which may be the same car) with license number OXX 552. So far, other vintage Clippers have not shown this detail if the left side of car is shown. Since this car in front of Raymond Way Motors dealership is a very early car, it stands to reason it may be the first completed car. Tony Marshall in his 2000 book on Microcars shared the following, “OXX 552 was retrained by Allard as a ’works car’, and used as a test-bed for such alternative power units as a JAP side-valve engine, and a British Anzani twin-cylinder two-stroke.” One Clipper today (527 DMF) shows this teardrop air vent on the left side and it’s owned by Tom and Barb Chandler (USA). It’s possible it’s the same car even though it has a different license number. This possibility is discussed earlier in the section on the 527 DMF car. In addition, the woman behind the wheel at the right looks very much like Raymond Way’s wife shown earlier in this book. Given these photos were taken at Raymond Way Motors, it strengthens this possibility.
