157 Exported Cars Car 11-12—Exported to USA Tom Lush wrote the following in his 1977 book on Allard: “About 20 Clippers were made in all, and two were actually exported to America!” Later in the 1990s in an e-mail to Colin Warnes of the Allard Register, Tom Lush revised the production number to five. Colin wrote a short article about this for the Allard Register on December 22, 2021 where Tom Lush shared the following information: “The total production was probably about five, but the factory had great hopes for these and actually tried to set up a very elaborate production line with not a conveyor belt but a frame where you slid the chassis' along and eventually they slide right out the back door onto a flatbed truck. Joe Jepson was the friend that was brought in who developed them. He was a friend of Sydney’s and a motorcyclist, so he got the job. He and his wife did take one 200 miles North to the Midlands to do so visiting and then got back without breaking down. The production involved driving them 20 miles south to have the fiberglass body put on and then driving them.” The Challenge: Your job—if you’ve made it this far in our book—is to find out what happened to these two missing Allard Clippers exported to the USA and perhaps, if you’re lucky, find one or both and add to the story. This might include a newly acquired car for you —good luck!
