76 Normal car-type controls are employed, the gear lever being mounted on the right-hand side of the driver’s seat. Forward gear ratios are 3.78, 7.0 and 14.6 to 1.The electrical equipment of the Allard Clipper includes a Wipac lighting set which embodies two 6 inch combined head and pilot lamps, both having dipping filaments, twin rear and stop lights and a panel light. Ignition is by Villiers flywheel magneto, and a 6-volt CVC Lucas dynamo produces current for the lighting system and the electric starter. A Smiths, 5 inch diameter, internally illuminated, speedometer is driven off the front hub. The equipment includes electric windscreen wiper and horn. As will be seen from the accompanying illustrations, the body, which is a 2-3 seater coupe with a fixed head, is of most attractive modern styling and is composed of glass-fiber plastic. The curved safety-glass windscreen is specially designed to deflect wind and rain from the sides of the vehicle, but side curtains are available as extra fittings. The wide rear view window is of plastic, and in the back of the body is a large rear-opening boot, the lid of which is hinged at the bottom and provided with a carriage handle and lock. Although the engine is carried at the rear, it is so disposed that really capacious luggage carrying space is allowed. Body Details On the passenger side of the front seat there is a particularly wide door secured by a Zeus automatic safety catch. The top panel of the bonnet is hinged at the rear to give immediate access to the steering assembly, front wheel, etc. Internally, the body is simply but attractively laid out and the 52 inch wide bench seat is upholstered in “Vynide.” In the seat itself Pullman springing is featured, ordinary springs figuring in the forward-tilting seat back, above which is a wide parcel shelf. The modern type of two-spoke, car steering wheel with center medallion is fitted and, in seated in the Allard Clipper it is almost impossible to detect that it is not a four-wheeler, the body styling being produced to simulate front wings.
