Johnny Dark Restoration Book - The Black Woodill Wildfire

3 Dedication Finding the cars that appeared in the 1954 movie Johnny Dark is the icing on the cake for us at Undiscovered Classics . This movie was a public recognition and celebration of America ’ s postwar handcrafted sports cars of the 50s—a topic that we research and share with others who appreciate these same cars and their history. Since finding the black Woodill Wildfire in 2013, we ’ ve helped get it to its new owner Jack Farr of Cresson, Texas and shepherded the restoration and the debut of this car at the 2021 Amelia Island Concours d ’ Elegance. Great thanks to those who participated in bringing this car back to life including Ralph Smith (mechanical), Rob Hernandez (body and paint) and Tom Cook (upholstery). And a special thanks to our great friend Dennis Gerdes who helped us save the car when it was located. Then, coordinated transportation to its new home in Tampa, Florida where it began its journey back to life. A tougher job than it sounds—without Dennis, this story would not be possible. We look forward to sharing the history of this car as well as the history of the movie Johnny Dark when the Wildfire debuts at the Amelia Island Concours d ’ Elegance on May 23, 2021. Geoffrey R. Hacker, Ph.D.
