1 Part 1 — The Movie Cars Eight Cars—Plus One There are two races showcased in Johnny Dark. The first was a real race at Santa Barbara, California on Labor Day weekend in 1953. This is discussed in more detail later in the book with famous drivers and their race cars that participated. It ’ s this same race where Universal Studios recruited several of the handcrafted cars, drivers and owners/builders that would later appear in second race in Johnny Dark.
