125 The Packard Proving Grounds While many of the beginning scenes of Johnny Dark were filmed at the Packard Proving Grounds (shown at left), the scenes involving the Wildfire were filmed in California. Bud Juneau who was a historian of the Packard Proving Grounds first noticed this and pointed it out. In the photo to the right, you can see a “ stand in ” pagoda without a roof. Mountains can be seen in the background and for those keen eyes (easily scene in the movie it- self) and eagle - eyed movie - goers can spot a few palm trees in the background of these scenes too.
