12 Irwin Lancer The Irwin Lancer was the first fiberglass sports car built in America narrowly beating the Glasspar G2 with its launch in May, 1951. The Lancer debuted in November, 1951 at the Petersen Motorama alongside Bill Tritt ’ s Glasspar G2. Between 1951 and 1956, approximately 25 bodies and cars were built. Four are known to exist today. The car was designed and built by Eric Irwin of Costa Mesa, California who also was the driver in the movie Johnny Dark.
