16 Tatum Special Chuck Tatum designed and built the chassis / drivetrain for this sports/race car in 1953. Jack Hagerman of San Leandro, California was tasked with clothing this Special in an all - alloy body following the designs of Arden Farey. The original car had cycle fenders which were removed after having fallen off on several occasions. The car was sent back to Haggemann to be fitted with more conventional fenders. The cars ’ first race was in 1953 in an SCCA event at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. This is a one - off sports car and still exists today. Chuck Tatum drove his own car in the Johnny Dark movie.
