129 Innovation: Show Cars From The Sea In 2018 and 2019 we had a chance to headline and support an innovative car show taking place at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut. The name of the show was “ Show Cars From The Sea “ and it was designed to attract people in new ways to both the aquarium and to car events—and it worked. The cars invited had names of ocean and sea bearing creatures. Think of “ Barracuda, ” “ Stingray ” and “ Marlin ” to name a few. But our cars not only had the names but they had radical custom, concept and sports car look. In 2018 we brought our 1962 Tiburon Roadster or “ Shark. ” as well as our 1956 Bangert “ Manta Ray. ” The next year we brought our 1955 Frazer Custom also called the “ Orca Special. ” and our super rare 1937 Gougeon Teardrop Concept car also called the “ Whale. ” We were honored to headline both shows and enthusiastically supported this new and different way of marketing that benefitted everyone —and it was great fun. But this event didn ’ t go unnoticed by the automotive media. In fact, it triggered additional articles which explored this new approach to car shows which has helped extend the car community to new and untapped venues. • This themed show may sound at first like a bit of a reach, but when thinking about the event and after attending it, I wonder why more organizations don ’ t hold similar fund - raising events. If you had a horse charity you could hold a show with Mustangs and Broncos. Such events could work as out - of - the - box fundraisers and bring people to the events who can donate but who also can help the organizations by getting the word out to an entire new group of people. But think about it, it ’ s not only cars with fish names that could be the basis of such a show. Maybe your community has an astronomical observatory, or maybe you just want to help raise money for a telescope for your local high school ’ s science lab.
