140 Bill Burke created and raced his first wing tank one year before auto magazines started. Documenting and building a replica helped establish how this movement began and why. Concept cars started years before the 1938 Buick Y - Job. Our 1937 Gougeon Streamliner helped make this point and kicked off research into other concepts long forgotten. To confirm that the 1947 Kurtis - Omohundro Comet was America ’ s first documented postwar sports car, we had to travel cross - country and speak with the two families involved as well cull automotive research archives across the nation. Our research also took us to looking at additional custom car literature thought lost during this era but found as a result of our work—The Dan Post Custom Car Archives. As a result of this project, we made available to the public through collaboration with The Rodder ’ s Journal.
