143 Research Contributions (continued) • We ’ ve researched the early automobile magazine movement of the 40s and 50s. We ’ ve uncovered missing issues and missing magazines and made these available to the public. We ’ ve also shared a complete listing of all magazines from 1946 to 1960 for use in research to the public—the first complete list ever available. • We ’ ve celebrated the beginning of the wedge car movement of the 60s. Our research into the 1966 Cannara established it as the earliest known wedge car of the movement that originated in the 1960s and brought fame to the wedge design in Europe, America and beyond. • We ’ ve also created a website where the information and stories we research are published and others can comment and participate as our research continues. Time after time we ’ ve found missing information and people who arrive on our site with keys to information or cars that were thought lost to time. • We ’ ve located and added to our collection some vary important cars that have been missing from the historic record which include: • 1949 Packard Monte Carlo Super 8 by Richard Arbib—the oldest surviving Richard Arbib design and the oldest surviving Packard Show Car by Henney Coachworks • 1950 DM Nacional Chrysler Sedanca de Ville by DM Nacional Coachworks of Mexico—the only survivor of five coachbuilt cars from the only coachbuilder that Mexico has ever produced • 1959 Bearcage commissioned by Bill Stroppe. His two employees designed and built the car and were so enthralled with the design that they left working for Stroppe and formed their own company based on the design—the famous Bill Thomas and Don Edmunds Cheetah • 1958 LeMans Coupe by Strother MacMinn and John Bond.—MacMinn ’ s only fully realized purpose - built design built • 1959 Cheetah “ Moon ” Transporter—commissioned and chassis built by Norm Holtkamp, body design and build by Troutman and Barnes, this is one of the world ’ s most famous vintage race car transporters • 1937 Gougeon Streamliner—one of the earliest concept and teardrop cars in existance • 1954 Chicagoan—only lost concept car from the famous 1954 Chicago Auto show which hosted the largest number of in - period concept cars in the 1950s. • 1947 and 1948 Kurtis - Omohundro Comets—both thought lost for over 60 years, we ’ ve found and added both to our collection. The 1947 Comet was America ’ s first documented sports car of the postwar years. • 1963 Warrior—built as a concept by Vanguard to emulate the Ford concept Mustang I, this rear - engine Tanus powered fiberglass sports car mimicked the Ford Mustang I and was going to production but instead the Vetta Ventura was produced using Intermechanica ’ s aluminum Apollo Italian bodies. • 1937 long wheelbase Cord Phaeton—Coachbuilt after production to add 18 inches to length of car in cowl area. Our website “ Undiscovered Classics ” is the methodology in which we can share the information we learn. The words “ Undiscovered Classics ” give name to what we find and share on that same site.
