13 1955 Meteor SR - 1 (2015) The Meteor SR - 1 debuted at the November, 1953 Motorama sponsored by Trend Inc. who published Hot Rod, Motor Trend and other automobile magazines—and it was a hit at the show. Dick Jones designed this car and it was built with his partner Jim Byers who later went on to start his own sports car company in 1955 based on the design of the Meteor. This was the first Italian - inspired design for an American sports car to become available for purchase. In the next several years, approximately 25 Meteor SR - 1s were produced, built and appeared across the country. Just 3 factory sports cars were known to have been built by Dick Jones and his brother Larry. Two remain today. Our Meteor SR - 1 was one of these factory cars and was built by Larry Jones—Dick Jones brother. The car was acquired by the Undiscovered Classics team in 2013. Its restoration culminated with its debut at the 2015 Amelia Island Concours d ’ Elegance. Since its restoration, it has returned to the Jones family and will have a coveted place as part of the Jones family legacy. The remaining Meteor factory sports car rests with our Undiscovered Classics team with focus on a future restoration.
