17 1956 Victress S1A—Dick Foster Special (2016) Dick Foster built his Victress S1A in 1956 and he continued to update and improve it during his ownership through the 1970s. Originally based on a shorted 1949 Ford frame, he decided in the late 1950s to convert it to a custom - round tube frame of his own design. He upgraded the engine as well to a Dodge Red - Ram hemi and used it as a daily driver. After the car was sold in the 1970s, it disappeared from the radar and surfaced in British Columbia in the early 2000’ s. We purchased the car a few years later and made arrangements In 2008 to bring it to our home base in Tampa, Florida. On the way home from California, we had a chance to share our latest acquisition at the Art Center College of Design ’ s annual car show. This was an important stop for us because one of the original designers of the Victress S1A graduated from this school in the early postwar years—the earliest known graduate of the program who later designed a production car. When we sold the car to its new owner in 2013, restoration plans began to take shape. By 2014 we started on the project with our Undiscovered Classics team in earnest for its new owner based on the west coast. Improvements were made to the chassis and corrections made to the body to bring it back to the true Victress S1A shape. The car was completed in 2016 and resides with its new owner safely tucked away in a garage with other collectible automobiles.
